A decade ago, the UAE had a shortage of top schools that were international in their outlook yet had a healthy respect for local culture and language. Today, Dubai has over 250 English medium private schools, with 20 planned for 2016; Abu Dhabi has nearly 150 international private schools. Over the last ten years, the UAE has witnessed phenomenal growth in the private education sector and now has more English medium schools than anywhere else in the world, with China ranked second.
Taaleem, formerly Beacon Education, was founded locally in 2004 and launched four schools with differing curricula in 2005: The American Academy for Girls in Al Mizhar (AAM); Uptown Primary School in Mirdif; Dubai British School in The Springs; and The Children’s Garden in the Green Community. These schools opened with a total of 758 students.
